Reps reject change of Egbado name to Yewa

Nigeria's house of representatives have rejected change of Egbado's name to Yewa. Senators yesterday approved the change of the name but house of representatives today rejected it.

Egbados changed their name to the Yewa in 1995 but that had not reflected in the Nigeria constitution till date. Only two Local government areas are affected; Yewa South which has about 198,000 population and Yewa north which has 216,000 population.

members support financial autonomy for
Local government areas.

At 1.04pm, Reps supported 35 per cent affirmative
action for women as ministers as well as 20
per cent for women as commissioners in
states.



At 1.39 pm, Representatives rejected change of names of some
local government councils which included Yewa North and Yewa South Local government areas. 

Also, 275 members voted in support
independent candidacy during elections.
