We are investigating torture of
man by cadets – NDA
February 4, 2016
The Nigerian Defence Academy has said it would
investigate a trending video, showing cadets torturing a
man.
The NDA, which said it would not tolerate the
mistreatment of Nigerians by cadets, disclosed that the
incident occurred in 2014 in Lagos.
A statement by the NDA on Thursday read, “The
attention of the Nigerian Defence Academy has been
drawn to a trending video showing cadets beating some
persons. Please note that NDA is investigating the
incident.
“Preliminary investigation has confirmed the incident to
have occurred in 2014 somewhere in Lagos while the
cadets were on break.
“NDA as a responsible institution saddled with task of
producing future military leaders will not in any way
tolerate such unruly and flagrant mistreatment of
Nigerians.
“The NDA under current leadership has addressed most
disciplinary loopholes. Further investigation is
continuing.”
The video, which has gone viral, has caused an outrage
among Nigerians, with many calling for the cadets
involved to be identified and sanctioned.
The video suggested that the man was being tortured
for referring to one of the cadets, a female, as being
beautiful.
The female cadet, who was apparently enraged by the
remark, led the torture, repeatedly slapping the young
man and dragging him on the ground at some point.
As she tortured the man, she kept asking him to tell her
how she was beautiful.
“Am I beautiful? How beautiful am I?” she asked at some
point.
Others took turns in assaulting the man, hitting him at
the back of his head.
Ignoring the man’s screams and his bloodied face, the
cadets continued their assault, laughing at the man’s
plight in the video which lasted a little over two
minutes.
