The Area ‘K’ Morogbo, Lagos State
police commander, ACP Usong Ekpo
has died in a hotel swimming pool at
Ajah while celebrating St. Valentine’s
Day, on Sunday night.
Usong Ekpo
whose hobby was swimming was in
the pool when he started struggling.
Ekpo who hails from Oron, in Cross
Rivers State was once the divisional
police officer (DPO) of Ajah police
station, from where he was later
transferred to Ilasan division in same
capacity. He was later redeployed to
Special Fraud Unit (SFU), Milverton
Road, Ikoyi, before he was elevated to
the rank of assistant commissioner of
police and redeployed as area ‘K’
commander.
He was a doctorate degree holder and
described as very generous and
friendly and usually called ‘The Man Of
The People’.
While as DPO Ajah, he was said to
have performed well in crime
prevention and combat.
He led a team of policemen to rescue a
whiteman who was kidnapped and his
team killed four of the kidnappers and
recovered N30m.
Lagos State police public relations
officer, SP Ifedolapo Badmos while
reacting to Ekpo’s death said the
police would miss his passion.
“The Lagos State police command
regrets to announce the death of ACP
Usong Ekpo, who until his death was
the Area ‘K’ Morogbo, Lagos. The
death occurred on Sunday February 14,
2016 while having his routine
swimming exercise in a pool. Ekpo was
enlisted in the police force in 1990 and
worked in various formations of the
force. He assumed his last duty post
as Area commander on November 14,
2013.
“The command will miss him for his
gallantry performance while he held
forth as the area commander.”
