We are investigating Ogun assembly majority leader On criminal cases - Police

The Ogun state police command today said that the majority leader of Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Yinka Mafe is presently being investigated on fifteen criminal cases on cult activities and sponsoring of thuggery in Sagamu area.

Police Public relations officer, Muyiwa Adejobi said Hon. Mafe does not have moral rights to call for the probe of a police head.

The Ogun State House of Assembly has earlier ordered the probe
of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Sagamu
Division, Mr. John Mark, over alleged extortion. The issue
was raised by the House Majority Leader, Honorable Yinka
Mafe, under personal explanation during plenary, against
the DPO, accusing him of demanding huge sum of money
from accused persons before they could be granted
bail. Mafe alleged that the DPO was fond of arresting
residents unlawfully on a daily basis and demanding money
from them.

But reacting to the legislature’s order, the
Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa
Adejobi, said the state command was not aware
of any complaint against the DPO.

Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said
John Mark remained one of the best divisional
officers in the state.

Mr. Adejobi said When the police finished their investigation on criminal cases, they would not hesitate to arrest Hon. Yinka Mafe for the prosecution.

In as much am not defending the Hon for any suspected cultism against him,it is the common thing with the police to demand money for bail and others at police stations. The onus now lies on the police authority to also investigate the allegations levied against the DPO of Shagamu if its not proper for the assembly men to do so. Mr Adejobi please take note..
