Ogun state house of Assembly has received the list of 56 local council development areas (LCDAs) from Governor Ibikunle Amosun for the proper legislative onuses and amendments.
The state government has been over some months receiving and collating the memorandum submitted by numerous communities representatives, leaders and traditional rulers in the 20 local government areas while consultations have been on as well to ascertain the boundaries of the proposed Local Council development areas.
Since 1978, during the era of the first civilian governor of Ogun State, Chief Bisi Onabanjo, the 40 year old State has been planning to create LCDAs but
the military coup de tat made it a futile process. In 2002, Chief Olusegun Osoba's government also conducted referendum on the creation of LCDAs, and there was approval on the 52LCDAs. Infact, Some local government secretariats were also constructed, while some buildings were also released by some communities for the local government administrative use, Transition committee members were appointed by Chief Osoba to run both 20 Local government areas and 32 local Council development areas created then but the PDP led government in Ogun state under Otunba Gbenga Daniel truncated the administration by throwing away the baby LCDAs with hot water in 2003.
As at last Friday 4th of March, Several communities leaders and politicians were seeing at Government secretariat and house of Assembly complex, rushed to submit their memorandum so as to meet up the proposal already collated for the house of Assembly usage. Hon. Adebiyi Adeleye, an house of Assembly member representing Remo north state constituency announced on his Facebook page today, while posed with the list of LCDAs, He said " Finally, LCDAs are here"
The Majority Leader of the house, Hon. Adeyinka Mafe representing Sagamu 1 State constituency responding on the LCDAs proposal, He said " We will get it (officially) by Thursday and it will be read openly as proposed before, we start amendments, debate and processes on it".
The final legislative onuses on the list of LCDAs by the 26 house of Assembly members would consequently allow Govenor to publicly announce the names and numbers of the local council development areas.
