Ogun introduces eye test for traffic offenders

The Ogun State Government is to commence eye test
for traffic offenders amid concerns many road users
have poor vision.

The Commander of Ogun State Traffic Compliance
and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Seni Ogunyemi,
made this known on Tuesday during the opening of
visual activity test training in Abeokuta for
members of the Corps.

Mr. Ogunyemi, who was represented by the Director
of Traffic Training and Public Education, Olusola
Bamidele, said the visual activity test training was
geared towards achieving visual accuracy of
potential traffic offenders.

The Corps Commander noted that the training
emanated from collaboration between the Corps and
Ophthalmologist Society of Nigeria, Ogun State
branch, on how to reduce road crashes to the barest
minimum in the state.

In his presentation, Oladapo Awodein, an
Ophthalmologist from the Federal Medical Centre,
Abeokuta, said that many road users in the state
had been discovered to have eye defect, hence the
need to enlighten TRACE officers on how to
determine visual impairment in traffic offenders.

Two of the participants at the training, Babatunde
Adeeko and Abisola Etuk-Udoh, appreciated the
management and the organisers for the training,
calling for more of such in the future.

They noted that the training would equip them for
better performance, adding that it would also
broaden their knowledge on how to determine road
users with visual inadequacy to reduce road
accidents across the State.
