Ogun LCDAs: Bloody clashes at Afon as OGSIEC conducts referendum

There were bloody clashes today as  people engaged themselves in serious fighting when referendum was being conducted by Ogun State Independent electoral commission for the proposed  Afon Local Council development area.

Several people sustained serious injuries as people freely used different weapons like guns, cutlasses and charms to fight themselves over boundary issue. People of Imala and Imeko-Afon have been fighting over boundary dichotomy of Obada-Idi-emi area over decades.

Some People alleged that Hon. Jemili Akingbade of People Democratic Party who is representing Imeko-Afon State led Some thugs to Idi-emi and Anigbado areas to terrorise people with guns. Vehicles were vandalised; While many people were injured are still in the hospitals as this report is filing.

There have been pockets of protests since Ogun State government announced the creation of Afon Local Council development areas which ceded Obada land to Afon.

Some people believed that Obada Idiemi lands belong to Abeokuta North Local which supposed to be automatically belongs to Oke Ogun Local Council development area, while Some people believed that the lands belong to Imeko Afon Local government or Afon Local Council development area.

The litigation on Obada-Idiemi lands has been at magistrate court, Ilaro division over the years without any judgement on it.
