Pictures : 75th Birthday Ceremony of Chief Alani Bankole

Chief Suarau Alani Bankole @75!

He is a great politician who is known nationwide. He had contested for Ogun State Governorship race three times during NPN, NRC and APP (ANPP) era. He later became National vice Chairman of ANPP before he defected to PDP in 2000.

Bankole got the governorship ticket of NPN in 1983 but leaders persuaded him to concede the ticket to Chief Soji Odunjo who decamped from UPN...Odunjo was good politician and grassroot mobilizer who contested with Chief Bisi Onabanjo.

At Primaries, When Onabanjo got votes of all 20 delegates from Ijebuland Soji Odunjo also got all 20 votes from Egba delegates. Yewa and Awori had two governorship candidates that divided 10 votes of the delegates from the zone (6,4).
When the rerun was conducted, it was Yewa delegates that gave Onabanjo votes to defeat Odunjo.

Odunjo was Commissioner in Onabanjo's cabinet in first term; things fell apart, ODUNJO, the Son of the old Action Grouper, Yoruba author, House of Assembly member, and First Minister for Lands and Labour, Chief J.F. Odunjo deserted the UPN fold with his followers to the ruling party, NPN at the federal level.......Chief Alani Bankole would 've been the Ogun NPN governorship candidate but Soji Odunjo was compensated in 1983.

Chief Bankole was the founder of Freight Agency Nigeria Ltd., the first Clearing and forwarding agency in Nigeria, He also established West Africa Aluminium company at Rounder, Abeokuta. He is the father of the former Speaker, Hon. Dimeji Bankole.
