Our Workers are not on Strike - Ogun SSG

The Secretary to Ogun State government, Barr. Taiwo Adeoluwa has said that the workers of the State are not on Strike as being claimed in some quarters. Adeoluwa said that the feedbacks from the 20 Local government areas revealed that all workers reported to work today. Barr. Adeoluwa while discussing with some Journalists in his  office on Thursday said the workers also reported to work at the state secretariat today in Oke mosan, Abeokuta. He said he was not aware that no worker was absent.

But when our reporters moved round the Capital city, Abeokuta, the gates of State high court, as well as that of State hospital were closed, while only few workers were sighted at the state secretariat, Oke mosan. The pupils were also sent to their various homes from the public schools by their teachers.

The Labour Leaders had on September 29 given 21-day ultimatum to notify the government that the workers would go on Strike if their demands are not met. The Workers' demands included:

(i) 12 month unpaid global deductions

(ii) 72 month unremitted Contribution Pension Scheme (CPS) against Contribution Pension Act

(iii) Abolition of statutory Joint Allocation Committee contrary to 1999 Constitution thereby crippling Local Government Service in Ogun State.

(iv) Non-payment of Gratuities since October 2012.

(v) Non-release of 2015 promotion

(vi) Failure to pay 15-month salary of TAISCE workers

(vii) Arbitrary and forcefull seizure of union dues and attempt to cripple unionism in Ogun State.

(viii) Collection of application fee for land, housing and car loan without access to any of this promised loan by Ogun State Government.
