Imbroglio in Ogun Assembly as members suspend Commissioner

The members of the Ogun State House of Assembly have suspended the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructures, Arch. Olamilekan Adegbite and ordered him to hand over the State properties and all documents in care of him to the Permanent Secretary in his office.

The 26 members of the State Assembly passed the resolution Today on the floor after the hot exchange of words between the Commissioner and the 12-member committee of the house. The hot exchange of words started when the Committee arrived at the room to meet the three Commissioners - Works and Infrastructures, Lekan Adegbite, Budget and Planning, Ms. Adesina Adenrele and Local government and Chieftaincy affairs, Chief Jide Ojuko - who had been waiting for almost 45 minutes, Adegbite then demanded apology from the Committee members for keeping them waiting while Chairman of the Committee who is also the deputy Speaker refused to apologize to them, this led to the hot argument.

The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Suraju Adekunbi later convened emergency session to pass the resolution, asking Governor Ibikunle Amosun to suspend Commissioner for Works and Infrastructures, Lekan Adegbite.

The Secretary to the State government, Barr. Taiwo Adeoluwa who also attended the plenary tried his best to intervene, but he couldn't  persuade the Assembly members from passing the resolution against the Commissioner.

Arch. Adegbite and the two commissioners had been summoned by the House to explain the reasons for the dilapidated conditions of most roads in the State and to state how the funds allocated for the roads in 2016 Budget are being spent.
