2019: Ogun Assembly members oppose illegal directives on Councillors

2019: Ogun Assembly members oppose illegal directives on Councillors

Some members of the Ogun State house of Assembly were reportedly to have opposed the directives given to the All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders by Governor Amosun in choosing and swear-in new 57 Principal officers for 20 Local government area (LGAs) and 37 Local Council development areas (LCDAs).

According to the information obtained by the Newspaper online, Some party leaders led by the Special adviser to Governor Amosun on political matters, Chief Derin Adebiyi had picked Principal officers - who were loyal to Governor Amosun - for the 57 councils. It was gathered that the APC leaders wanted to make sure all those chosen were not loyalists of Ogun APC governorship aspirant, Senator Adeola Olamilekan popularly known as Yayi.

The names of the Leaders and other Principal officers were reportedly announced at the Oba's complex last Monday. This caused the ripples and confusion among the party leaders as the Assembly members queried Mr. Speaker, Hon. Suraju Adekunbi, if that was the same way his election and swear-in ceremony were conducted.

Consequently, the Assembly members warned that the State government to allow the councillors to should their Legislative leaders and other Principal officers themselves. The members also kicked that such names should not be announced at the State level.

Text messages were later sent to all the Council Chairmen by the Director of the Local government in the Ministry of Local government and Chieftaincy affairs, to come forward and pick the legislative instrument on behalf of the Councils. The message reads:

"Im directed by the Hon Com . to inform all d Chairmen of LCDAs to come to d office of d DLGA tomorrow Friday 22nd Sept 2017 to collect their MACE and its accessories by 2.00pm prompt. Kindly remember to return all ur ITF forms too. Thank u. DLGA."
