Amosun cancels revenue collection points for Local governments, says Ogun loses N5bn monthly.

Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun on Monday expressed worriness that the state was losing between N3 billion and N5 billion as revenue monthly from haphazard toll collection.

Amosun disclosed this at the inauguration of harmonisation of haulage revenue collection at the event tagged `Harmonisation Eradicating Multiplicity in Haulage Revenue Collection’.

The chairmen of local governments and local council development areas, officials of security agencies, stakeholders in transport and haulage sector were in attendance at the event.

The governor said harmonization will address the revenue leakages in the state as well as sending touts who collected revenues on behalf of Local governments away from the major roads.
He also warned that anyone caught operating illegal toll points will be prosecuted under the law.

“We find out that a large chunk of generated revenue was not remitted to government and some of the operators have gone beyond the brief of the delegated authority.

“As a government, we cannot allow such abuse which has led to major revenue loss and extortion of our people,’’  Amosun said.
