Jimoh Aliu (Àwòrò) MFR : The foremost Actor and Director

You will hardly know him, if you had not watched his television drama series like Yanpo Yanrin, Fopomoyo, Arelu, Ajalu, Iku jare Eda and so on.

Jimoh Aliu, 80 year Old, is popularly known as "Aworo" often playing the role of a
‘Chief Priest’, is to many, an inspiration in the 1970s
and 1990s in the Television drama series.

Though, he spent only
six months in elementary school and never went beyond that; He is still Visiting Professor at the University of Jos (UNIJOS),
Ekiti State Cultural Ambassador and a high chief in Okemesi-Ekiti.

The
seasoned artiste, producer, location designer,
director, and make-up artist and singer began acting in 1959 when Akin Ogungbe , a
Nigerian veteran dramatist visited his hometown, the
same year he joined the Akin Ogungbe theatre group
where he gained some experience in drama.

In
1966, after he spent seven years with the Ogungbe
troupe, he established "Jimoh Aliu Concert Party", a
group based in Ikare in Ondo State, Nigeria .

He later joined the Nigerian Army in 1967 but retired
in 1975 with the aim of focusing on drama as well as
promoting independent artist under the platform of
Jimoh Aliu cultural group.  He had produced several
television drama series such as Iku Jare Eda, Yanpo
yanrin and Fopomoyo that featured king Sunny Ade .

He once married to Folake Aremu better known as Orisabunmi who was a teacher before she joined Jimoh Aliu theatre group but they later divorced.

He had received many
awards from local to international. He was honoured with a National Merit Award of Member of the Federal Republic (MFR) in December 2005.
