As Ogun State Independent electoral commission announced that election into Local government areas (LGAs) and Local Council development areas (LCDAs) will hold on the October 8, 2016, the commission has also revealed some guidelines.
The commission Chairman, Alhaja Risikat Ogunfemi made this known yesterday at the Press conference organized by the commission on Monday to intimate the political parties on the date and time tables of the election.
She explained that the decision of the commission to conduct election was in
line with section 197(1)(b) constitution of the federal
republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and section 10(1)
of Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission Law
2007 (as amended).
The election timetable according to the OGSIEC, the party activities,
including campaigns and party primaries will commence
between 11th – 15th July, 2016, while collection of
Personal Data Forms for their candidates will be held
between Monday 25th and Thursday, 28th July 2016.
The Commission Chairman, Ogunfemi said Chairmanship candidate' screening would
take place between 5th and 6th August, while the
Councillorship candidates would be screened between
2nd and 4th, also in August, 2016.
Nomination forms of
cleared candidate are to be submitted
between 5th and 15th September, while campaigns end 24 hours before the election.
She assured a level-playing field for all
participating political parties, appealed to people, not
to allow themselves to be used for violence as they would be caught by the law enforcement agents.
The Commission then advised the political parties to curb their members to campaign without violence, adhere to the rules and regulation of the game.
On his Contribution, the Commissioner III of the electoral body, Barr. Mutiu Agboke said the commission will also communicate to the political parties other necessary logistics. He said that collection of forms would be free of charge for the candidates of the political parties.
