IGP demotes Ikenne DPO who beat up female traffic warden

The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of
Ikenne Division of Ogun State, Patrick Onwu,
who beat up a female traffic warden for flagging
down his private car at the Nigerian National
Petroleum Corporation, NNPC filling station on
IBB Boulevard in the state, has been demoted.

The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase,
on Thursday ordered the demotion and
immediate transfer of the DPO.

Kudos to the IGP. But this gesture should also be extended when it happens to civilians. Otherwise some people may resort to local juju like do not beat and any airing police 🚓 officer can meet his waterloo. So police men should stop beating anybody under no circumstances.

He ought to have had his appointment terminated instead of his being demoted. That punishment is not weighty enough!
