Ajassę-Ipo : A town where it is a taboo for strangers to sleep!


Ajasse-Ipo is a town located in Irepodun Local Government of Kwara State, in fact, it is political headquarters of Kwara South Senatorial District. The town can be found along Federal highways to Omu-Aran and Offa.

According to the history, Ajasse Ipo was ancient town founded  around 17th century and it is political headquarters of Igbomina people. Akiniganin, a great warrior and Ifa priest from Oyo Ile was the founder of the town.

The town was named after the first son of a warrior or Progenitor "AJASSETI"
during the reign of King "OLUPO" Adeoba that the suffix 'IPO' which is also a name of existing River in the town.

Ajasse-Ipo town does not allow a first time visitor to sleep in the town. The tradition had it that a visitor who was accommodated and hosted in ancient years back died before day break which brought problems to the host. Since that time, it has become a taboo to allow a visitor to sleep in the town.
