Labour Party drags OGSIEC to Court, asks Court to stop October 8 LG/LCDAs Elections

Ogun State Chapter of Labour Party has dragged the Ogun State Independent electoral commission (OGSIEC) to Ogun State High Court, Abeokuta for disallowing the party from presenting Personal data of the party's Candidates.

The Acting State chairman of Labour Party in the state, Arabambi Abayomi disclosed this at a news conference in Abeokuta On Wednesday where he accused the electoral body of preventing the party from participating in the forthcoming poll by not collecting the necessary documents before the end of the deadline given by the Commission.

In the Summons suit no. M/215/2016 before an Ogun State High Court, State Chairman, Comrade Abayomi Arabambi Oluwafemi, Comrade Olaposi Oginni, Hon. Aroyeun Sabur Sina and Labour Party as claimants, sought to determine: “Whether or not, by section 221 relevant sections of Ogun state and the Election Time Table the proposed local government election for 8th October, can validly hold without given form to all interested candidates/ Political parties.

“And if the answer to the question was in negative, the claimants seek the following reliefs: ” that the claimants are entitled to collection and submission of the political Parties forms CF 001 and CF 002.

 That the date for collection and submission of the political parties forms be extended in other to accommodate the claimants.”

 The party also sought a declaration “that the subtle manner in which the 4th Defendant, Alhaja Risikat Ogunfemi, chairperson of OGSIEC, has kept posting the claimants up till the deadline date for collection of personal data forms for candidates by political parties violates his constitutional right to vote and be voted for,” concluding that the party was praying for an injunction restraining the state electoral commission and Ogunfemi (3rd and 4th) defendants from carrying on with the scheduled council poll election slated for 8th October, 2016.

Labour Party also said the action of Risikat Ogunfemi led- Commission “as not only controversial, but objectionable, questionable and very strange in the history of our nascent democratic political history because she has proved herself as a member of the ruling APC in Ogun state with penchant to dislocate, destroy and manipulate opposition parties to systemic failures”.
