‘’ Value What You Receive ‘’

I actually got  inspired for  today’s message while ruminating about the appreciating spirit of a couple close to me . I  marvelled at their action which subsequently  led to a proverbial saying on Silver and Gold . It happened  just  in this dry season when vegetables are symbolically regarded as priceless possession due to apparent scarcity  . I had sent some quantity of ‘’ Efo and Ewedu ‘’, vegetables to a friend’s wife from my irrigation farm through the husband . To show appreciation, as small and immaterial as the gift seems, the wife called me later in the night  . I later jokingly told the husband on phone that ‘’ Gold and Silver I have none ,but ‘’ Efo and Ewedu’’ . In a swift but surprising  response , the wife had said , the Efo is Gold owing to the priceless nature of the substance in this dry season while the Ewedu is Silver . So , symbolically , she said I had  given them both Gold and Silver . I cannot help but laugh my teeth off seeing what  value  the couple has really placed on  the little and somehow meaningless gesture. Then  I ask the simple question today , what value do you place on that gift ? And how much do you appreciate people for favour received ? Many a time people tend to appreciate others less when they receive a small gift. The fact however is that,  no matter how small the gift you receive from others , do not hesitate to show the right appreciation . Someone says ‘’Life is a giving, not a living ‘’  Those who understand the psychology of giving  usually say it  that not actually how big the gift is , but the spirit behind the giving that actually matters . Giving is a spirit and it is the spirit behind it that actually matters, while appreciating what we are given matters a whole lot  . A Yoruba proverb says ‘’ Eni to dupe ore ana , a ri omi gba’’, meaning he who shows appreciation for little favour  received yesterday will sure  receive more in return . God also commands us to let our appreciation be more than our prompting when we are praying .But , I bet you those who do not know how to appreciate little favour will not even appreciate God in their prayers ; they will rather ask for more favour instead of appreciating God for the one’s they receive . When you appreciate God through praises and thanksgiving , the floodgate of blessings from heaven opens for you to receive . In the same manner , when you appreciate little favour from others, you are inadvertently preparing the ground to receive more . Many a time , people have wittingly or unwittingly block the route to receive bigger favour from people just because they do not learn to appreciate small gifts. Those who give small today may eventually have the capacity to give much more tomorrow . When you fail to appreciate no matter how small , you may force them to withhold what you would have been given some other time . Such may be more valuable to you and loosing it may be like losing a fortune  .  The Bible says ‘’ Do the small thing well and the big thing will take care of itself ‘’ . When you appreciate small gifts you do not only stand the chance of getting bigger ones, but you are also showing how much you cherish your relationship with others and above all you are helping to advance  the Biblical injunction.  Brethren , why not emulate the proverbial Silver and Gold couple today and see what greater things God has in stock for you . Good day .

Bible Verse for the day : 1 Thessalonians 5;18
