Collapsed building kills pregnant woman and her 5-year old daughter in Abeokuta

Tragedy happened in Ogun state when a pregnant
woman and her five-year-old daughter were crushed
to death by a collapsed building.

The Nation reports that the incident occurred on
Thursday, March 24, in Onifufu/Aderupaba
neigbourhood at Oke-Ijeun area of Abeokuta.

The woman, identified as Kafayat Somoye, and her
daughter, Ganiyat, were passing by the building
when it suddenly collapsed and fell on them.

Neighbours said that Somoye was taking her
children, Ganiyat and Ganiyu, to Methodist Primary
School in Ago-Oko when the incident happened.
Ganiyu who was ahead of them at the time of the
incident escaped death by the whiskers.

One of the witnesses said that the wall of the over
70-year-old building killed the two before any help
could reach them.

Although the mother and her child were pulled out of
the debris and were rushed to the State General
Hopistal in Ijaye, they were said to have died on the
way.

On March 19 a similar tragic incident happened in
Lagos, when the balcony of the building at No 9 Alli
Close – Mile-12 collapsed. A 47-year-old woman
sustained bodily injury and died on her way to the
hospital, no other casualty was recorded.
