Jubilation! Court frees man who named his Dog Buhari in Ogun

The Chief Magistrate’s Court in Sango-Ota in Ogun State on
Tuesday dismissed charges filed against a resident of a community for naming his dog ‘Buhari.

The magistrate, O.O. Adebo, said the
prosecution failed to substantiate its case
against Joachim Iroko, thereby striking out all charges against him.

Mr. Joachim Iroko, 41, was arrested in August 2016 for
causing a breach of peace after he was
reported by his neighbour.

Haliru Umar, Iroko neighbour
from Sokoto State, said Mr. Iroko harboured
sinister motives when he gave his name the
same name as President Muhammadu Buhari.

The magistrate said the prosecution team failed to
provide witnesses since December 2016 when the case started, and,
at some point, stopped appearing for hearing in the court.

Meanwhile, there was jubilation in the court premises when Iroko was discharged and acquitted.

Senate passes Peace Corps bill

The Nigerian Senate finally passed a bill to
make the Nigerian Peace Corps a para-military
agency on Tuesday.

The conference report on
the bill to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps,
after it was so advised by its committee on
judiciary, human rights and legal matters was adopted by the Senate.

The Senate and the House of
Representatives had separately passed the bill
last year, despite the much controversy and the opposition by the Federal government agencies.

After the passage of the bill by the Senate, President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to sign the bill into law.

APC names El-Rufai, Aregbesola, Osunbor, 6 Others as restructuring committee

The ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) has constituted 9-man committee to articulate the party's position on restructuring

The party announced the constitution of the committee in a Press release signed by National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi
at its 5th regular joint APC National Working Committee (NWC)-APC Governors meeting which held on Wednesday 19th July, 2017.

Supreme court removes Sheriff, comfirms Markarfi as PDP Chairman

The Supreme Court has removed the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as People Democratic Party Chairman, the court also  declared former Kaduna
State governor, Ahmed Makarfi as the authentic
chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

A five-member panel of
justices presided by the Chief Justice of
Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen,
held  May 22 reserved judgment on the party dispute.

Budget 2017: Osibajo signs appropriations bill into law

2017 appropriation bill into law.

Professor Osinbajo signed the budget at about 4:40
p.m. on Monday inside his conference room
in the presence of the Chief of Staff to
President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari;
Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Speaker of
the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara,
Ministers and other top government officials.

Ogun, FCT and Other 18 States to share N40bn ecological fund

Ogun State, 18 opposition States and Federal capital territory (FCT), Abuja and that were excluded from the sharing of ecological funds in 2013 during the administration of the former Goodluck Jonathan are set to get their own shares.

The states that got the ecological funds were all PDP states
and states of other parties that were
sympathetic to the PDP like Labour Party in
Ondo and APGA in Anambra State. Nineteen states and the FCT did not get
the N2bn each from the Ecological Fund.

According to Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai who addressed the journalists said the States that were excluded are; Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Borno,
Edo, Ekiti , Imo , Jigawa, Kano , Kwara and
Lagos.

“Others are Nasarawa , Niger , Ogun , Osun ,
Oyo , Rivers , Sokoto , Yobe and Zamfara.

Each State is to collect N2bn each denied them by the Jonathan administration from the funds set aside.

Breaking: Cross-River Senator dumps PDP for APC

The senator representing Cross River central, John Enoh, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Senator Enoh is chairman of the senate committee on finance in the National Assembly.

While Speaking on the floor of the senate on Tuesday, Enoh said he had registered as a member of the APC in his ward.

At this point, the chamber became rowdy as APC senators got up to welcome Enoh to the party.

Commenting on the development, senate president, Bukola Saraki, wished him well on his sojourn in the APC.

“I wish him fruitful service to his people on the platform he has chosen,” Saraki said.

APC targets N1.2bn membership dues monthly

The National office of All Progressives Congress (APC) is  to rake in the sum of N1.2
billion monthly from membership dues collection so to generate funds internally.

The party has refused the State Governors to fund it so as not to hijack the party, yet it has been experiencing funding
challenges, hopes to overcome it through a
newly acquired software system which enables it
to deduct the sum of N100 monthly from the
members’ airtime as they recharge their mobile.

The National Treasurer of the party, Alhaji Ibrahim
Gwagwarwa, said the software was designed in
such a way that N100 would be deducted from
each members mobile phones automatically
from airtime recharge at the end of every
month.

The sum of N1.2 billion was
arrived at based on the of registered APC
members currently put at 12 million, According to the Treasurer.

National
Executive Committee (NEC) has approved the
electronic system for membership dues
collection.

He said the party was making arrangement to
decentralise the installations to make it easy for
members to be captured in all the geo-political zones.

Nigerian Senate resumes, adjourns sitting for Adeleke

The Nigerian Senate resumed from its 2-week break on Today but adjourned plenary to Wednesday to mourn a member of the Senate, Isiaka Adeleke of Osun West Senatorial District.

The Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki who presided over a short session, asked the Senators to dress appropriately for a valedictory session in honour of the former governor of Osun State on Wednesday .

After plenary was adjourned, the lawmakers proceeded to the condolence register placed at the entrance of the Senate chamber to register their feelings and last moments with their dead colleague.

Commission, of South-west states, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti, Lagos, Ondo and Osun States, Dr. Dipo Famakinwa, is dead.

Dipo was responsible for designing and
implementing the blueprint for better
integration and governance of the six south-
western states

According to Premium Times, multiple
sources close to Mr. Famakinwa confirmed
his death on Friday morning.

Mr. Famakinwa’s organisation was
responsible for designing and implementing
the blueprint for better integration and governance of the South-west States.

Lagos-Kano-Abeokuta rail project begins with demolition in Lagos

The construction of the Lagos-Kano-Abeokuta
standard gauge rail track will begin this week Friday.

The multi-billion dollar Lagos-Ibadan rail
project is the first phase of Lagos-Kano
standard gauge rail track that will pass
through Abeokuta in Ogun State.

The rail track is proposed to connect the Apapa
and Tin Can seaports in Lagos to the rail corridor.



Managing director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Fidet Okhiria  asked those whose property encroach
on the right-of-way of the rail corridor to
evacuate them.

Already not less than 2,000 properties had been demolished on Friday in Lagos, including 5 Churches, 3 Mosques and Others.

Okhiria said that "Those that are due for compensation
will be compensated because it is part of the contract.
“But those who encroached on the land have
to leave the premises as soon as possible
because the constructions will begin on
Friday.
“We intentionally did not give permits to so
many people because we know that one day,
the land will be required.

“So we have already mapped out those places
we need to remove and they are aware. We
have told them to remove their valuables before the bulldozers start work,’’ he said.

Osibajo bags Jagaban title in Adamawa

The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osibajo has been conferred with the traditional title "Jagaban Adamawa".
This was announced today by the media aide of Osibajo, Mr. Laolu Akande on his Twitter account.

According to him,
"The Lamido confers VP with the
honorary title- "Jagaban Adamawa"
meaning front-runner of Adamawa, with
a colorful presentation of a horse

FG declares Friday, Monday as Public holidays

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared
Friday, 14th and Monday, 17th April, 2017 as
Public holidays to mark the Good Friday and
Easter celebrations.

This was announced today in a statement
signed by the acting Permanent Secretary in
the Ministry of Interior, Muhammadu Maccido.

"Minister of Interior, Gen. Abdulrahman
Dambazau (rtd.) who made the declaration on
behalf of the Federal Government, enjoined
Christian faithful and Nigerians in general to
extend the spiritual benefits of Easter, which
are love, peace, justice, sacrifice and kindness
to their daily living, and through this
contribute to unity and peaceful co-existence
among Nigerians’, the statement read.

He further urged Nigerians to co-operate and join hands with President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, in his sustained
efforts to build a strong and virile nation.

NUJ honours Amosun with Excellence in Leadership awards

The National leadership of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) led by Alhaji Waheed Odusile has honoured the governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun with 2016 Excellence in Leadership award.

While explaining the rationale behind the award, Odusile said it
was in recognition of the major developments
Governor Amosun has recorded in his mission
to rebuild Ogun State. The awards ceremony will be done later. 

“As journalists, we have gone round the
country and we are impressed with the level of
development we have seen in Ogun State,” he
said.

While appreciating the leadership of NUJ, Governor Amosun promised to continue to serve the State diligently with the dedication.

“I will continue to serve the good people of
Ogun State with more dedication, vigour and
hardwork,” Governor Ibikunle Amosun said.

NUJ had also given the same awards to four governors last year. They were Governors Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa, Yahaya
Bello of Kogi, Solomon Lalong of Plateau and Gabriel Ortom of Benue.

Monthly Salaries of Council Chairman, Councillor, Supervisor and Others in Ogun State

Ogun State House of Assembly has amended 2008 Local government emoluments laws. The 2008 laws were amended last month after the regime of Local government Public office holders who served between 2012 and 2015 under the first term of Senator Ibikunle Amosun. No emoluments law was used during the first term of Governor Amosun but rather than the directives signed in a circular by a Permanent Secretary, Engr. Ogunsolu, on the claim that the State government would later pay according to the existing laws whenever the government was financially buoyant.

The new emolument of the new Chairmen, Councillors, Supervisors Special Advisers and Others is contained in the Ogun state
amended local government and local council
development area emolument bill 2017 which was
approved by the State House of Assembly last
February 21.

 


According to the information available to Newspaper Online, the monthly salary of Chairman is N255,200, 
the salary of the
Vice -Chairman is N227, 240 per month, 
that of Secretary to the Local Council is N205,357 per month, 
the salary of Supervisor is N159,357 per month, 
Special Assistant' salary is N70,000 per month, 
Leader of the Legislative council will get N215,000 per month as salary, Deputy Leader salary is N205,000 per month, 

Majority Leader of the Legislative council gets N205,000 per month, Chief Whip' salary is N204,200 per month, Minority Leader gets  N203,145 per month while each Councillor would take home N201,216 every month.

Pay as you earn tax will still be deducted from each of this payment by the Ogun State Internal revenue service.


APC NWC to meet Senators over FG-Senate face off

The National Working Committee of
All Progressives Congress will on Tuesday meet the Senators so as to broker peace on Federal government - Senate face off.

According to the press release signed by the Publicity Secretary of APC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullah, it stated;

“Following the All Progressives Congress (APC) resolve to intervene in the on-going rift between the executive and the National Assembly, the APC National Working Committee (NWC) will on Tuesday, April 4, meet with the party’s caucus of the Senate.

“Worried by the worsening relationship between the two arms of government, the party had embarked on a series of consultations with the key actors aimed at resolving the growing impasse.

“It would be recalled that the party’s leadership led by Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, its national chairman, recently met with the House of Representatives APC caucus.”

“Ahead of the Tuesday meeting with the Senate, the party expresses its happiness with the committee set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to re-examine the executive relationship with the National Assembly.

“The party considers the committee headed by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, as a step in the right direction, which demonstrates President Buhari’s recognition of the paramount importance of the legislative institution in a democracy.

“The party reiterates its commitment to ensure that the relationship between the two critical arms of government improves further, and commended the National Assembly leadership for its maturity and pre-disposition to have all the issues resolved as quickly as possible in the interest of the party and the nation as a whole.

“The party, however, warns that it would not hesitate to take appropriate action against any member whose utterances or behaviour is capable of jeopardising the peace initiatives or further worsening the existing situation.”
