..........denies bribery allegations

The transport Unions committee set up by Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to oversee the affairs of all the transport unions in the State has denied collecting bribes from the present Union leaders as being speculated on social media.

The committee headed by a reputable legal practitioner and comprises of respectable party leaders across the State also assures the party faithful that they cannot be cowed by financial inducements to work against the set objectives given to the committee by the Governor.

The committee maintained that they were only using the set out laws guiding them to discharge their assigned responsibilities. And they were only putting necessary templates in place to facilitate easy take over of the job.

The committee in discharging its responsibilities and giving the Stakeholders utmost sense of belonging had invited all the contestants jostling for one position or the other from NURTW, RTEAN, ACOMORAN, AMORAN, TORAN, TWORA in order to make their assignment easier and to broker peace in the state.

The committee further reiterated that " We have not picked any of the contestants to the chairman of any of the Unions"

The committee thereby seek for the cooperation and support of every Stakeholders in ensuring peaceful coexistence among them.

Ogun 2019: Kaka, Abiodun, Lawal obtain APC guber forms , Obadara, Ogun Central APC endorse Akinlade

APC governorship aspirants from Ogun East Senatorial district, Senator Gbenga Kaka, Mr. Jimi Lawal and Chief Dapo Abiodun have all purchased their nomination forms at the party Secretariat, Abuja.



Newspaper Online gathered that the three aspirants bought their nomination forms in Abuja on Friday against the directive of Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun who said at the party Stakeholders meeting that he would only support a candidate from Ogun west senatorial district.


Meanwhile, the notable leaders from Ogun Central Senatorial district have endorsed Hon. AbdulKabir Adekunle Akinlade as the candidate of the party.

   Chairman of the APC, Ogun State, Chief Derin Adebiyi, handed over Akinlade to the Ogun Central Senatorial District Chairman of the party, Engr. Yomi Ademefun and said "we, from Ogun Central have unanimously agreed to fully support any consensus candidate from Ogun West." 

Former Minister, Ministry of Mines and Steel, Alhaji Sarafa Ishola, described  Akinlade as a man of character, with capacity to deliver and a proven record and experience in the public and private service as well as the Legislative arm of government. 

  Alhaji Tajudeen Bello, said the endorsement of Akinlade is in line with the party's constitution.


Moving the motion for the endorsement today at the Ogun Central Senatorial meeting held in Abeokuta, Senator Olugbenga Obadara from Odeda Local government cited the reason they must support Yewa Aworis Candidate. His motion was seconded by Mrs. Ogunsan from Obafemi Owode Local government area.

   Akinlade, in his response, appreciated the leadership of Ogun West for choosing him, assuring that no Senatorial District in the state will be neglected, when he assumes office.

According to him, his blue print is to complete all ongoing projects of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun administration and also develop the entire state.

Akinlade who is present House of Representatives member representing Yewa south and Ipokia federal constituency was adopted by the leaders of Ogun West APC, and he was introduced to the party members by Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Derin Adebiyi.

Ogun Assembly aspirant, Ishola urges people to learn from lessons of Ramadan
The Ogun State House of Assembly aspirant for Abeokuta North State Constituency, Engr. Tajhdeen Olalekan Ishola has urged people of Abeokuta North Local Government, Ogun State and Nigeria at large to learn from lessons brought the holy month, Ramadan which just ended yesterday.

In a Press release issued and Signed
by the Director of Communication and Media of Irorun Movement, Moshood Muhammed, Ishola congratulated Muslims across Nigeria and particularly those of Abeokuta North extraction on the successful completion of a very important pillar of Islam - the Holy of Ramadan.

He urged the faithfuls not to relent in exuding good morals and lessons Ramadan has afforded them, adding that such goodwill, if sustained would culminate in building a peaceful society.

The release continued "For us at Irorun Movement, we use this medium to restate our commitment to work assiduously for the good of the people. This we have again exemplified during the last nine days of Ramadan where about two thousand people were duly catered for.

Consequently, we would consolidate on the projects we have started, such as bore hole project across the sixteen wards. The first one at Ilawo Oke Ona Ward 1, Abeokuta has been completed and ready for use."

Ishola stated further that the empowerment programmes of Irorun Movement would go on as planned.
He advised people to celebrate with merriments with moderation. He then offered prayers for peace and tranquility of our constituency, Ogun state and indeed Nigeria.

Group promises to support Amosun candidate with N25m

A group known as Movement for Yewa Awori For Governor (MOYAG) has promised to support the governorship candidate from Governor Ibikunle Amosun with the sum of N25 million to campaign for gubernatorial race in 2019.
Mr Sola Oyekanmi, Chairman of MOYAG promised this during a press conference held on Tuesday at the NUJ Secretariat, Iwe Iroyin, Oke Ilewo Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The Chairman of the movement said the group would begin to sensitise and encourage participation in the electoral process within the senatorial district to achieve the set objective, come 2019.

”It is not that we lack competency in our zone. Also this political imbalance has seen other senatorial districts benefit more infrastructural development than the senatorial district. The movement is willing to support anyone and all credible efforts to ensure that next governor of Ogun state comes from our senatorial district.

”MOYAG hereby states that when governor Amosun delivers his promise, the entire people of Ogun west senatorial district will be very grateful and it will be recorded in history as the most significant pillar of support for Yewa Awori people towards our pursuit for development and political advancement,” Oyekanmi said.

Court sacks Lawmaker in Ogun

An High Court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta has restrained a councillor, Jide Opatola who is representing Ward 10 of Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State, from discharging his role as a lawmaker saying that his election is null and void.

The Councilor, Jide Opatola a member of All Progressives Congress, was dragged to Ogun State High Court by one Omoba Adesanya Omoniyi for inconsistency in his nomination as the Party flagbearer in the last local government elections in the State.

In a suit no M/24/2016 filed by Adesanya, he claimed that Jide’s nomination was imposed on the people of Ward 10 Remo North axis, adding that the nomination of the embattled councilor violated the constitution of the party.

The claimant also said the embattled councilor did not pass through primaries as stipulated in the constitution of the party.

The claimant however prayed to the court to restrain the embattled councilor from parading himself as the councilor of the Ward 10 of Remo North Local Government Area.

The plaintif also prayed to the court to mandate the APC to hold an elective congress that will nominate the councillorship candidate for Ward 10 of Remo North LGA.

In his judgment, the Honourable Justice Mobolaji Ojo restrained the embattled councilors from parading himself as the councilor of the axis, describing the nomination as invalid, illegal, unconstitutional and void
Ojo also ordered the defendants to pay a sum of fifty thousand as the cost of the suit, saying the nomination have been made in contravention of article 20(i) and (ii) of the constitution of the APC.

The leaders of workers in Ogun State have accused the state government of being among the state governments owing workers on their payroll salaries.

Chairman of Ogun state Joint Negotiating Council, Abiodun Olakanmi, said state government, is owing four month salaries.

Olakanmi stated this in Abeokuta at the state congress of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation, Civil Service Technicians and Recreational Service Employees.

He explained that the 16 months of deductions from workers salaries which have not been remitted to the appropriate authorities by the state government, is equivalent to four month salaries.

According to him, the four months of arrears of salary deductions from salaries to co-operative societies, amount to one month, while 16 months of such unremitted deductions amount to four month salaries.

Apart from the 16 months of unremitted deductions to co-operative societies, Olakanmi said the state government is owing three months of check-off dues, to the unions.

Following the news making round about the 2019 governorship choice of Ogun state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun which is fast becoming the truth, Ogun west leaders and aspirants met today at Deacon Poju Adeyemi's house for a strategic brainstorming.

Deacon Adeyemi, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain from Ogun west senatorial district was former secretary to the state government during Olusegun Osoba administration. The meeting which was decisive and addressed on major concern bothering on who succeed the incumbent governor in 2019 amidst growing concerns.

The state governor had reportedly said his choice for the 2019 gubernatorial seat was not among the current politicians jostling to succeed him but a preferred technocrat.

A source who does not want to be quoted disclosed that some of the aspirants expressed their displeasure with the rumored choice of Amosun should it become a reality. An unconfirmed news had earlier filtered in that the governor had settled for the choice of a Canadian based Mrs. Titi Odunfa Adeoye as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer.

They however agreed to plead with the governor through the octogenarian politician to pick one of them instead of picking a foreigner named "Tokunbo" at the meeting.

Aspirants in attendance at the emergency meeting include the Chief of Staff to the governor, Chief Tolu Odebiyi, Commissioner for forestry, Chief Kola Lawal, Hon. Abiodun Akinlade and others.

The meeting ended at around 2pm with the hope of reconvening to review the feedback from the governor at a late date.i

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has said that his governorship candidate for 2019 race in Ogun State might not be a politician.

Amosun, on Tuesday in Abeokuta, said his choice candidate may not be a member of his party, the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Amosun assured that the candidate will come from the Yewa axis of the state.

Amosun on January this year while meeting with the party leaders, said his choice of candidate will be a dark horse, like Raji Fashola, as ACN candidate in the Lagos State’s 2011 governorship poll.

Foremost Egba Educationist, Jiboku dies at 67

A foremost educationist and High Chief in Egbaland, Abeokuta Chief Abayomi Jiboku is dead.

Jiboku was the Proprietor of Taidob Group of Schools, Abeokuta, was also the Oluwo of Oke-Ona Egba.

It was confirmed that Jiboku who had been hospitalised for almost died on Tuesday, at an undisclosed hospital in Lagos. He was aged 67.

According to Daily Sun, When contacted on phone, Sister of the deceased and Iyalode of Yorubaland, Chief (Mrs) Alaba Lawson, confirmed the news.

She described Jiboku as a lover of humanity and a loving soul whose departure would be greatly missed by the entire Egbaland.

Ogun 2019: Former Minister sets to join APC

In what appeared to be strategic moves ahead of the 2019 political race in Ogun state, the former Minister of Mines and Steel Development and the Secretary to Ogun state government during the administration of Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Alhaji Sarafa Tunji Ishola has set to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress APC in the state. 

Sarafa who recently contested for National deputy Chairman in the Peoples Democratic party's national convention had been in talks with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chief Olusegun Osoba and other south west leaders of APC for some time. 

Sarafa, according to the information gathered by Newspaper Online, is closely working with the Ogun governorship aspirant, Senator Olamilekan Adeola popularly known as Yayi. 

Sarafa Tunji Isola who was born on 25 November 1960 obtained a Diploma in Marketing from the
Chartered Institute of Marketing,
London . He became a lecturer at the Federal College of Education, Katsina in 1983. He joined the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation,
Abeokuta in 1986. 

 From 1997 to 1998 he was Chairman of the Abeokuta North Local Government Council. He was appointed Special Assistant to the Minister of State, Finance (1999–2003) and was Secretary to the Ogun State Government (2003–2007). 

Isola was among Ogun State leaders who fell out with the state governor,
Otunba Gbenga Daniel. In March 2007, shortly before the next national elections, the governor was looking for help in resolving difference with former Minister of State for Finance Jubril-Martins Kuye , Ogun Central Senator
Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello and State Secretary Alhaji Sarafa Tunji Ishola.

President Umaru Yar'Adua appointed Sarafa Tunji Isola as Minister of Mines and Steel Development on the 26 of July 2007.

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has said that he would meet all the factions in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on the 2019 general elections.

Amosun said this at a meeting of the state’s APC leaders in Abeokuta, that his party, All Progressives Congress (APC), is considering consensus candidates for all elective posts in the 2019 general polls.

Amosun promised to meet with all aspirants for elective posts on the platform of APC in the state, to agree on the consensus candidates for the 2019 polls.

The governor, who spoke on the issue at the APC secretariat, said those he will meet, include serving members of the National Assembly and state House of Assembly, who are interested in running for another term.

He explained that APC will resort to holding of primaries to elect its candidates, if the meetings fail to agree on consensus candidates, including those of governorship, for the 2019 polls.

The governor promised that all factions in the state’s APC, will be carried along in the said primaries, while promising to accept the outcome of the primaries.

The commissioner for finance, Mr. Wale Osinowo has said that the Ogun State government has paid the December and the 13th-month salary to its workers since last Wednesday ahead of the festive period.

Osinowo also explained that the state government used the first tranche of the Paris Club Refund to pay the salary of its workers.

“On the Paris Club Refund, guidelines were set by the Federal government and the state government has been following it to the letter.

“When we got the second tranche, we used 75 per cent for settlement of salaries and deductions of workers while the remaining 25 per cent was used to execute projects.

“We are yet to receive the third tranche of the refund,” the commissioner said.

Ogun State government has announced that it would pay the severance allowances of the past local government political functionaries in the first quarter in 2018.

The Commissioner for Finance, Mr Wale Osinowo, disclosed this while defending the ministry’s 2018 budget estimate before the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, in Abeokuta.

“The amount to be paid between 2007-2011 is N540m while the amount between 2011 and 2015 stands at N560m which makes it just over N1.1bn to be paid as severance to the local government political office holders.

“Before the first quarter of 2018, we will ensure we settle the severance allowance." Osinowo said.

The commissioner said the State is yet to receive the third tranche of the Paris refunds which was already paid to 27 States.

Court rejects attempted murder charges against arrested MAPOLY Students

The 'attempted murder' charges against arrested 20 students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta had been reportedly to have rejected by the Magistrate of the Ogun State Magistrates’ Court I sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, when the case came up on Wednesday.

The students were arrested during the protest they tagged 'black week' which started on Monday over their inability of their to sit for their second semester examination initially scheduled for September 18, because of the disagreement between their lecturers of the institution and the state government.

It was gathered that magistrate presiding over the case rejected the attempted murder charges against the arrested students, as the suit was not properly instituted.

It was also gathered that only 5 among the 20 people arrested were students. Some were civil servants who were coming back from work and a serving Youth corps member.

The arrested students might be eventually arraigned on Thursday.

Tejuoso, Adebutu, Oluomo lead in online polls on performance
Senator Dr. Prince Olanrewaju Tejuoso, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu and Hon. Taiwo Olakunle Oluomo were the winners of Online polls conducted by Newspaper Online based on performances in law-making and onuses to their constituencies.

Tejuoso, Adebutu and Oluomo were widely voted by people of the constituencies. According to the Chairman of the survey, Comrade Oluwafemi Nuberu, the one time Students Union President of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye who supervised the 3-day online polls said people voted in favour of Senator Lanre Tejuoso of Ogun central senatorial district, his votes were followed by that of Senator Buruji Kashamu of Ogun east senatorial district in Category A. Hon. Adebutu led the other 8 Representatives in the Category B while Hon. Micky Kazzim was second. In Category C, Hon. Oluomo was chosen by the people as the best lawmaker among the 26 members of the Ogun State house of Assembly. Fortunately, Ganiyu Oyedeji who represented Ifo Constituency II came second.

EFCC : Ogun Auditor-general testifies in favour of Daniel in court

The Ogun state Auditor general, Mr. Olayiwola Dosunmu has testified in favour of the former Governor, Gbenga Daniel in Abeokuta High court, Isabo when the Economic and financial crimes (EFCC)'s case came up in the court on Friday. 


Mr. Dosunmu while cross-examing by the EFCC lawyer, Mr. Rotimi Jacobs said he was not aware of any audited report that indicted the former Governor, Gbenga Daniel since he assumed as the Auditor general of the State. 

The EFCC lawyer, Mr. Rotimi Jacobs had filed a fresh evidence against Daniel and the Auditor general was invited  as a witness to testify against Daniel. 
Justice Olanrewaju Mabekoje then adjourned the case to January 19th and 20th, 2017 for EFCC to present another witness (es).
