Breaking: Arigbabu appointed as Acting V.C of TASUED

Professor Abayomi Arigbabu has been appointed as the acting vice chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED).

Prof. Arigbabu is a Professor of Mathematics Education, is the third Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University, and was also once the Director of the Directorate of Academic Planning, Quality Assurance and Research (DAPQAR) of the University. 

He holds a Bachelor of Science (Education) Degree in Mathematics (Second Class Upper) from the University of Lagos, and Master of Science in Mathematics from the same University.

Prof. Arigbabu later proceeded to the prestigious University of South Africa, Pretoria for his PhD in Mathematics, Science and Technology with specialisation in Mathematics Education. As a Mathematician and Mathematics educator, Prof. Arigbabu has been involved in Mathematics, Science and Technology (MST) education and preparation programmes in Nigeria in the last two and a half decades. He was an Associate Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, Olabisi Onabanjo University between 2000 and 2002.

In addition to this, he was a visiting Professor in the Department of Science and Technology Education, University of Lagos between January 2014 and January 2015. As an Erudite scholar and educationist par excellence , the new Deputy Vice Chancellor has been a co-promoter/co-supervisor of Doctoral theses of the University of South Africa (UNISA) since 2006 , while he was also an external examiner (of Doctoral theses) to Rhodes University, Grahamstown and Tshwane University of Technology in South Africa and the University of Ibadan. Prof. Arigbabu belongs to numerous academic and professional associations like Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN), Science Teachers’ Association of Nigeria (STAN), Nigerian Mathematical Society (NMS), Southern Africa Association for Researchers in Mathematics, Science and Technology Education (SAARMSTE) and the Science Association of Nigeria (SAN) among others. Moreover, Prof. Arigbabu, a Consultant to international journals as well as local and international organisations, is a Master Trainer on the United Nations Population FUND’s (UNFPA) Population and Family Life Education programme.

His consultancy involvement includes Longman Plc, Learn Africa Plc, Pearson Educational Services, UK.

He is, a reviewer to highly reputable local and international journals, particularly, those cited in the index of the Institute of Scientific Information (ISI). They include African Journal of Research in Mathematics, Science and Technology Education (South Africa), Sex Roles: A Journal of Research (United States), South African Journal of Education(South Africa), Computers in Human Behaviour (England), Journal of Human Ecology(India) and Journal of Science Education and Technology(Netherlands), among others. 

Prof. Arigbabu, at leisure, enjoys playing table tennis and football.

MAPOLY Students will pay for what they damaged during protest, Amosun vows

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has said that all the students of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Ojere, Abeokuta will pay for all the public assets they damaged during their violent protests on Tuesday in Abeokuta.

The students destroyed billboards, the passerby vehicles, material being used for the construction of the pedestrian bridge in the area.

Amosun said this indication while reacting to the violent protest of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic' Students at the ongoing meeting of the National Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abeokuta.

The governor also reinterated that the striking lecturers of the polytechnic will not be paid salaries for the period they were on strike, while asking them to return to classrooms.

Two Nigerian teachers have been nominated for the 2018 global teacher prize.

Varkey Foundation sponsored the award with a monetary of $1 million which is up to N360,000,000 in Nigerian naira.

Mr. Ayodele Odeogbola is presently teaching at Abeokuta Grammar School, Idi-aba, Abeokuta, Ogun state while Mr. Itodo Anthony works at Gateway Excel College Otukpo, Benue state.

Both are among the 50 shortlisted teachers from across the world.

Conceived the idea in 2013, the prize was set up “to recognize one exceptional teacher who has made an outstanding contribution to the profession as well as to shine a spotlight on the important role teachers play in society”.

The top 50 were shortlisted from over 30,000 nominations and applications from 173 countries from around the world

Varkey Foundation will announce the winner at the Global Education and Skills Forum in Dubai on March 18, 2018.

Muslim Professor bags PhD in Christian religious Studies

Rasheed Jimoh-Ijaodola has bagged a doctorate degree at the University of Ilorin in Christian religious studies.

Rasheed Jimoh-Ijaodola, a Muslim, is a professor of law and dean, Oba Erediauwa College of Law of Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State.

Jimoh-Ijaodola’s thesis examined biblical prophesies and other prophesies, including prophesies of the late Sage and Prophet, Nostradamus.

His research focused on the end time and the role of humans in the fulfilment of those prophesies.

Jimoh-Ijaodola bagged his first PhD in electoral law from the University of Jos, while his second PhD was in property law from the University of Ibadan.

Amosun lays foundation stone of Ipokia Polytechnic today

Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun will today lay the foundation stone of Ogun State Polytechnic in Ipokia town of Ipokia Local Government.

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has in July, 2017 approved the creation of the new polytechnic for Ogun State which to be located in Ipokia Local Government Area of the state.

Ogun State already has;  Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu Igbo, Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Sapade, Remo, Gateway Polytechnic, Igbesa, Gateway Industrial and Petrol - Gas Institute (GIPI), Oni, Ogun Water-side, D.S Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori.

Ogun State government established the new polytechnic in Ipokia since Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta had been converted to the University of Technology. With this, the State now has three Universities; Moshood Abiola University of Technology (MAUTECH), Olabisi Onabanjo University (O.O.U) and Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) and One College of Education, Tai Solarin College of Education (TASCE).

Crescent University sacks 40 Staff

The School management of Crescent University, Abeokuta has sacked more than 40 Staff of the University over inability to pay the salaries and entitlements of staff.

Most of the sacked staff were those who were expecting their promotions which had been due for some years now.

Newspaper Online confirmed that the school management had sent text messages to some staff last week to come for their letters, thinking the letters were for promotions. On getting to the school premises, they realized it was sack letter they were asked to come for. Some of the staff who included Academic and non-Academic staff were eventually rushed to the hospitals over unexpected scenario. The university has been battling to pay salaries some months now and it owed the staff up to 5 months salaries.

Crescent University was established in 2005 by the former Attorney general, Prince Bola Ajibola.

Fayose proudly told the world that he once put one of his sons at SUBEB model school in Ado Ekiti during his first term.

Body of Missing UNILAG Student found in Mortuary

The body of an undergraduate of University of Lagos (UNILAG), who was declared missing some
three weeks ago, has been found in a mortuary.

Odeleye Remilekun was declared missing days after she reportedly went for a party on the Island but never returned.

Unknown to her loved ones, relatives and friends that the young lady
was involved in a motor accident on Eko Bridge
and her remains had been deposited at the mortuary.

According to one of her friends who took to social
media to search for her, Odeleye left her hostel
at Gbagada on April 1, with a friend for a party.

They became worried when they couldn’t reach
her on her mobile phone.
It was gathered that her body was interred at
the Atan cemetery in Yaba.

Medese Dewumoh who was also her friend
broke the news of her death on social media,
abused those who alleged that she might
have been killed by the ritualists.

“I thought you were missing
babe. I tried to look everywhere for you but alas
you had died in an accident the next day you left
home. We thought you were missing, never knew
you had gone to never come back. With tears in
my eyes and pain in my heart, I pray you rest
well because we are all going to die and yours
came a little early. We are going to forever miss
you baby, I am going to be strong not because I
am capable but for you my happy soul, who
loved with all her heart. You lived a short life but
you touched my heart with your love and
happiness. Now to you who live your life trolling,
backstabbing, judging and saying hurtful things
about people you know nothing about, I hope
you are happy your wish came true. Yes she is
dead but she was not a prey of what you
thought and hoped it was. She died in an
accident on Eko bridge April 1, and yes she was
never a call girl or whatever name you all have
for it. I hope this makes you sleep well tonight
and makes you fulfilled.” She said.
