Jubilation! Court frees man who named his Dog Buhari in Ogun

The Chief Magistrate’s Court in Sango-Ota in Ogun State on
Tuesday dismissed charges filed against a resident of a community for naming his dog ‘Buhari.

The magistrate, O.O. Adebo, said the
prosecution failed to substantiate its case
against Joachim Iroko, thereby striking out all charges against him.

Mr. Joachim Iroko, 41, was arrested in August 2016 for
causing a breach of peace after he was
reported by his neighbour.

Haliru Umar, Iroko neighbour
from Sokoto State, said Mr. Iroko harboured
sinister motives when he gave his name the
same name as President Muhammadu Buhari.

The magistrate said the prosecution team failed to
provide witnesses since December 2016 when the case started, and,
at some point, stopped appearing for hearing in the court.

Meanwhile, there was jubilation in the court premises when Iroko was discharged and acquitted.
